Ms. DJ Johnson - Biography

DJ Johnson was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1967. After her parents divorced, her family moved to New Jersey and was a product of the public school system. She graduated from East Orange High School with honors, and became the first member of her family to accomplish this feat, breaking years of generational curses. Her father was a long distance truck driver and is credited with giving her the love of travel and sense of adventure. Her mother was a homemaker for many years, but after the divorce, she was forced to work to support the family. She is credited for giving DJ the strength, drive, and “can do anything” attitude, she is known for.

She attended The American College in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated in 1991 with her BA of Applied Arts in Interior Design. She interned with a major design firm and stayed on for an additional 9 months as an unpaid intern, even after graduation, hoping to acquire a full time paid position. The recession of the 1990’s would not allow that to happen, and thus was forced to change fields. Still determined to work in her chosen profession, in 1992, DJ started Studio 109 Designs from her downtown loft, which coincidently was loft #109. In order to generate additional sources of income, she went back to work in the field of property management.

Being self sufficient and independent at an early age, DJ worked as a full time leasing agent in order to pay tuition and cover living expenses. She held the same position, even on a part time basis, while interning. Over the next twenty-two years, she would successfully and profitably managed 5 multi-million dollar assets and support many others, in 10 major housing markets across the country. During that period, she had built Studio109 Designs into a successful and profitable Design Firm.

Looking ahead, she’s indulging and combining her “sense of adventure” with her “can do anything” spirit. She’s written her first memoir, “Why Should Men Have All The Fun?”, which is due out for publication in early 2012. Currently, she is traveling the world abroad, while working on her second book.

DJ Johnson is single with no children. When she is in the US, she resides in both Atlanta and Austin with her dog, Maxamole’.
